lateral screen ---> callback timeline

V20 firm in major market. On Monday, my 30 min screener with practice group head lasted nearly an hour and a half. At the end, she said that she would recommend me for a full call back and described the process. I haven't heard anything since. Is this typical or have you had similar experiences?

If they said they wanted to call you back then they likely meant it. Very possibly, they just havent communicated it yet to the appropriate recruiting personnel for a number of possible reasons (busy, forgot, forgot and busy) or they have and the recruiting personnel are trying to gauge general group availability for the callback.

Oh, dear god. Why weren't you hired on the spot?

That's honestly impressive. In like a torturous and miserable way.

Add in the fact that some firms are dealing with interviewing summers now. You’re probably on the back burner.

I recently scheduled my callbacks for some lateral positions, and one firm asked for dates “up to a month out” to schedule.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

OP here. I had a 6 hour screener on the 11th, which went great. But, I haven't heard back from the firm and it's coming on two weeks. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

It seems like I was a great fit for the practice group and the head partner liked me, so the silence is a little interesting/frustrating for me!

I’m in a similar boat. Followed up last week and was told I would hear “soon”. Still waiting. Been having trouble getting any work done today.

I haven't received a response to my follow-up, so maybe we're all at different firms lol. A friend said that it's a busy lateral season currently, so they're probably taking a little while longer to get back to all of us!

Not OP, but recently had a NY v10 screener and CB invite came within the day.

OP here. Did a 6 hour callback and then was radio silence for two weeks, even after following up with the recruiting coordinate. Ultimately sent the partner/practice group head that I had the 2 hour screener with a follow-up, and he sent an email saying it wasn't a great fit because of my experience level but wished me the best of luck.

I was a bit of a non-traditional lateral because I had done non-law for the past year, but ultimately landed at a firm with a nice signing bonus.
