Turning down an offer

Should I send an email to a partner that I really connected with during my screener as well as the recruiter when turning down an offer? I ended up talking with the partner on the phone after my cb too, and they emailed me a kind congratulatory email following my offer. Unfortunately, I will be accepting elsewhere. Should I send them an email sort of apologizing and thanking them for their engagement? Or would it be weird/too much?

I guarantee they already forgot about you. Just email the recruiter.

I don't think it could hurt. The partner will surely understand, and leaving things on good terms will be helpful in case you are ever looking to lateral back to this firm. That being said, you only *have to* let the recruiting team know, so if for whatever reason you don't want to reach out to the partner, you don't have to.
