Salary Requirements

I interviewed for an in-house position for a casualty insurance company as a “insurance attorney.” I’ve been working at a small firm with just two attorneys (myself and managing partner). I’m overwhelmed in work.

In the interview they asked my salary requirements, I said 80-85? Did I tell them to low of a number? Was it appropriate to ask numbers. Has anyone else made the small firm to in house jump, and how is it?

It’s impossible to answer your question based on the information provided. Unless you know a lot more about the job, the industry that it’s in, and what its competitors are paying for counsel, you probably made a mistake by tossing out a number first. If the job actually would pay 75k, they’ll tell you that now. If it actually would pay 95k - or 120k or whatever - they will happily offer you 85k now at the top of your range.
