Switching firms and practice groups as a first year

Hi all,

I just finished my stub year and want to switch firms. I want to move to a completely different location (think CA to DC or Chicago to LA) and switch to a practice group that is not offered at the office I’m currently in.

I realize this is a lot but I want to make sure I’m proactive about the career path I’m on before it’s too late to change it.

Is this possible? Do I need to wait until the 1 year mark?

Anon to preserve my identity so people don’t know I’m contemplating switching. Thank you.

it's not too early. it's actually helpful that you want to switch location as well, there are plausible reasons for doing so.

1 year wouldn't be too late but the earlier the better.

how big of a jump in practice group are we talking? something big like lit to corporate or smaller like patent lit to appellate lit?
