For questions such as why our firm, is it OK to say 'I like your culture better, more than larger firms?

Interviewers include both litigators and transaction lawyers. If I tell them I like both litigation and transaction, would it be a problem?

What do boutique firms care about most when looking for candidates?

Are there really boutique firms with both litigation and transactional practices? Are you interviewing at a boutique or midsize firm? That’s probably important to know going in.

OP here - I always thought it's common that boutiques have both litigation, transaction and/or advisory practices. Maybe it's just my practice area?

Anyway, do you think the interview is very different for boutiques vs. midsize firms, or boutique/midsize vs. big law? Thanks!

If it’s a boutique, you may have to tell the firm you are sold on a singular practice. Boutiques have limited practice areas, and they are probably more cautious about hiring someone who has no idea what they want.

As for the culture thing, some boutiques are run just like biglaw firms. If that’s the case, it may sound either disingenuous or uninformed to say you prefer their sweatshop culture to a generic biglaw firm’s.
