Callback Question

I have a callback with a V20 firm and very much want to set myself apart. They’ve sent me the list of people I’ll be interviewing with. Is it creepy to read some of their publications and ask them about their work? Is it necessary? Not sure what the proper approach is.

They’ll expect you to have looked on their firm website, so I don’t think it would be “creepy,” but also definitely not expected. Mainly you should have a basic idea what their practice group is, and maybe if they lateraled from another firm so you can throw them the “why x” question. But be more prepared to talk about the firm in general and yourself.

If you do go this route, only ask if there’s a publication you’re genuinely interested about.

Seconding the last point; you can really shoot yourself in the foot by asking about a publication and trying to engage them on the subject if you then pretty quickly reveal you don't know what you're talking about.
