I've been hearing through the grapevine that this has been a particularly slow/challenging year for OCI, but that might be hearsay.

Re: Penn OCI 2021
Whole lot of radio silence on 4 out of my 5 Friday NYC firms. Hoping things pick up tomorrow given MLK day today.

Does this have anything to do with the large number of pre-OCI offers? Feels like there were a lot...Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 11:28 amI've been hearing through the grapevine that this has been a particularly slow/challenging year for OCI, but that might be hearsay.

We can only speculate but probably a combination of increased pre-OCI movement and firms being more conservative with hiring following covidAnonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 4:54 pmDoes this have anything to do with the large number of pre-OCI offers? I know (from a friend) that Cravath and Paul Weiss sent CBs out--Cravath even sent out offers. Silence isn't a good sign. Congrats on your CBs, though! Really great lineup.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 1:26 pmfinally found this thread. adding movement here in case it's helpful:

Re: Penn OCI 2021
Again, we can only speculate, but I think one other factor is that people may have been less willing to look for new jobs in 2020. That would mean fewer people lateralled, went in house, or said fuck it and started writing movies. That would (theoretically) mean that firms had fewer spots to fill overall, making the whole process more competitive than it normally would be.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 4:23 pmWe can only speculate but probably a combination of increased pre-OCI movement and firms being more conservative with hiring following covidAnonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 4:54 pmDoes this have anything to do with the large number of pre-OCI offers? Re: Penn OCI 2021
Respectfully, I don't think this is the correct way to think about hiring. If midlevels or seniors aren't lateraling out, that would only impact lateral hires. OCI/junior associate recruiting would be treated separately in terms of building out the bottom of the firm for the next couple years. If firms are expecting a slow down in the market, the easiest way to cut costs is to limit hire from the start.JFKjr wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 5:03 pmAgain, we can only speculate, but I think one other factor is that people may have been less willing to look for new jobs in 2020. I really believe it's a combination of cautious hiring and increased pre-OCI movement and a number of unknown/behind-closed-doors factors.
