Psychometric evaluations during OCI?

I've heard that some firms (Skadden, OMM) are conducting psychometric evaluations during this year's recruiting process.

Is anyone able to confirm this?

I didn’t for Skadden last year, and didn’t interview at OMM, but I did get one from White & Case.

Yep, got one from Skadden alongside the CB invite. Latham too.

Anyone care to speculate how much weight these "tests" will be given when the final hiring decision is made?

OMM does, never heard of Skadden using that pseudo-science though, and I did pre-OCI with them.

Pre-OCI through the callback stage?

Just answer as follows:

"Personality tests are pseudoscientific bullshit promoted exclusively by recruiting firms that want to sell you on their particular package of bullshit. Of course, I'm just naturally skeptical about these things because I'm a Virgo."

It's nothing to sweat about, a set of cognitive exercises that tests different things (pattern recognition, change detection, memory, etc)

Skadden did it this year after the screener stage for CBs

Are you thinking of a different test? Psychometric evaluations are Myers-Briggs personality assessments and similar strains of bullshit, not actual cognitive tests.

Still, it's nothing to worry about, because there is no "right answer." The test will provide you with a statement like "I am more comfortable in a big crowd than in a small group" and ask you to rank your level of agreement/disagreement with the statement. After you've answered enough of those questions, it will provide you with your "type." Even if you could sufficiently prepare for these to game the tests, it would be impossible to do so in an effective way, because each firm is likely listening to a different witch doctor evaluator telling them which personality types are the best fit for their firm.

The platform used by Skadden measures personality traits AND basic cognitive functions (i.e., compare two strings of characters and say whether there's a difference or not). Different flavors of bullsh*t.

OMM had us do this pre-OCI screener. They sent it to us a day or two in advance of the screener, when OCI was already in full-swing. The games took 45 minutes to complete, continuously malfunctioned, & were all around tedious & frustrating. In addition to being pseudoscientific bullshit, it was a huge waste of time and a frustrating thing to be asked to do in the middle of an extremely stressful process where our time is precious and limited. It was the only firm that asked us to do anything like that, so left us with a strong negative impression (Skadden did not - but they might for CBs).

If any recruiting people are reading this, please please cut that out. If you're going to have people do 45 minutes of BS psychometric games, at least have them do them in advance of a callback interview, not in the middle of OCI for a twenty minute screener.

good news for Skadden. was at a recruiting event and a recruiter there said those tests, at least for this year, can only help your candidacy. they do not know how legit they are yet.

I may be confusing firms, but the one I did was for sure cognitive tests. But it was pre-OCI so maybe they tweaked things a bit. Either way, seems like we're in agreement that the test is useless.

After a little more digging, it looks like the term "psychometric evaluation" applies to both kinds of tests. So everyone's right, and everything is still horrible.

Not OP, but yes there are a few logic game-ish questions. I did the Skadden evaluation before my morning coffee and definitely didn’t crush that section. Still got an offer though, so I doubt this thing matters

Do you mind sharing when you did your CB for Skadden (and if this is Skadden NY)?

I'm OP and that's super reassuring because I definitely got most (if not all) of that section wrong.
