General Corporate vs. Tech Transactions

Hi all,
I'm currently a first year doing general corporate work (M&A and CapM) but considering switching to my firms Tech Transactions group to get a better lifestyle (corporate group is really brutal).

Would it generally be the case that TTG has a better lifestyle while also maintaining great exit options? Even if the TTG does more M&A deal support?

With regard to exit options, I'm pretty easy to please. Just someday would like a 9 to 5ish job making $250,000ish, hopefully more remote. Free time is important to me.

Any lawyers here who have made the switch or thought about it?

Any insight is appreciated!

Anon in order to avoid possibly outing myself and firm.

A 9-5 paying $250,000 doesn't make you "pretty easy to please," by any standards. What do you think most in-house lawyers are getting paid?

At the firm, a deal support-focused TTG may or may not be easier. Is TTG remotely understaffed at your firm? If so, supporting 10+ M&A deals all moving on volatile timelines can still really, really suck.

I don't mean that as my first exit from the firm. Just my end goal. And i don't think that is too crazy if you factor in stock options and benefits, plus some seniority.

$250k all-in for a relatively chill job coming out of TTG seems like a perfectly reasonable goal to me. I don’t know that TTG is any chiller at a firm than M&A, but anecdotally decent in-house exits open up earlier for TTG than almost any other practice area.

Bump. Curious how to make this switch.
