Top Law Schools

Hey guys. I transferred from a t25 with a 3.67 to Penn. This semester I finished with: A (3 credits), A (3 credits), A- (4 credits), B+ (2 credits) and B+ (2 credits). Using a 4.3 scale i should end up around 3.71 (I know Penn doesn’t actually give GPAs).

My question is how competitive is this GPA for a 2L at a t14? I know grade inflation occurs pretty significantly compared to 1L, but is this still roughly in the top third? No real fluff classes besides PR (which I got one of the B+s in) and a Sports related class. Thanks in advance, just trying to figure out if I should try swapping with classmates for more competitive firms and/or setting up time slots at competitive firms’ hospitality tables. I only have one screener in the V10 currently as I wanted to be conservative given all the unknowns this year.

To be honest I don't know much about the NYU bidding/transfer situation, except that they are relatively transfer friendly. In past years, second year grades did not factor in at all, so it's kind of a new situation. If I were to guess, I would imagine a firm would not just discount your grades in NYU, but I would be careful to get too overconfident with it. You can't combine your previous school GPA with NYU, since they are reflective of very different experiences, and you can't just solely rely on your one semester of grades from NYU. Considering the transferring factor + the unknowns of this year, I would stick with your more conservative bid list. I am generally pretty risk-averse, and nobody really knows what firms are going to come away with regarding associate class sizes this year.

That being said, for times on hospitality tables, not sure how it works for NYU but you should try and get to any additional hospitality tables as time permits, I imagine it can't hurt.
