What’s the scoop on working at Keker? I know it’s very competitive and respected, but I don’t know a whole lot else about it.

I know a handful of people at Keker. They're all nice. They hired one sociopath from my law school, but that person's no longer there.

Any comments on hours? Better, on par with, or worse than general biglaw?

On par. Associate hours are around 2000-2200 most years.

Is Keker market or above market?

Hate to narco old threads. But I'm interested in pursuing this firm. Any extra information would be greatly appreciated. Particularly how they deal with federal clerks sending apps.

Not 100% certain, but I believe they are market.

I’m not sure what you mean by this — they welcome such applications?

Given that hours and comp are market, what’s the reason they’re so sought after?

Because it's one of a small handful of firms where you be reasonably certain that you'll get early, substantive responsibility on the highest of high stakes litigation/trials.

It is arguably (and only because of MTO) the best trial practice on the west coast, which places it on the short list for best trial practice, period.

Keker is as awful as any other firm. I am currently employed. They are disorganized, arrogant and dump a shit load of work on you with no guidance. They pride themselves on letting first years litigate, well they shouldn't. I had several huge filings dumped on me at, oh, around noon, when someone finally read their damn calendar and realized something was due THAT DAY. Then they'll give you the run down and disappear. Or answer questions only partially. Then the secretary has to try and get it all together and file it by midnight, which happens only by the skin of their teeth, thankfully. If clients knew how close to malpractice they come with every filing they would not be held in such high esteem. Friends that work at big law are not experiencing this from what I have been told. They are mentored and given a more reasonable time allotment to complete tasks. They also seem to accomplish the work and trials with half the attorneys, with the same success/failure rate. Hours, benefits and pay scale are on par with big law. They only consider the Ivy's, so anything less than the top 10, don't bother.

I know two people who used to work there. One is great and a pleasure to work with.

The other is not-so-great and sends obnoxious "pls fix" type comments at 5PM on Friday when it would take him/her less time to just make the edit themselves instead of flagging it and sending it back and then waiting for a response.

I will say that both of them have left for (more) WLB type roles but continue to work more than others.
