Advice for giving notice after bonus and during COVID

Hi - anon for obvious reasons.

Was wondering thoughts on here for how to give 2 weeks notice during COVID. Without COVID I would just walk into a partner’s office. I’m assuming better to call than send an email, and to call a partner rather than HR, but am curious what thoughts others have.

Also, obviously giving notice right after bonuses are paid will not make the firm happy, and am wondering if there are any ways to lessen the blow.

Also, Bonuses are paid at end of month, but should I give notice as soon as it clears bank account, or at least wait until Monday? More concerned about them getting someone else integrated on my deals than anything.

Yeah, just call a partner. There’s no rush to give notice the second it clears unless there’s some other context we don’t have about you trying to leave ASAP.

Unless the people you work with are jerks, this will not be a big deal. Tons of associates do it every year.

OP here - thanks. For added context, thinking I want to give notice ASAP after bonuses are paid out so they can start the transition process sooner on my deals and so I can start my new job sooner.
