Sec Lit to PE/VC. Is this doable?

I'm a fairly junior sec lit/white collar associate (2nd-4th year) at a V20 in CA. I'm looking to change practice groups and move into PE/VC. How feasible is this move? Open to lateraling as well as just staying at my firm and moving practice groups.
* Anon because I don't want this associated with my account.

I'm somewhat trying to do the inverse. I've heard it's difficult, but not impossible. Definitely easier to do for a second year than a third year. I'd talk to a recruiter and perhaps bring this up with your partner. I think in the end, as long as you've done good work, law firms rather hold on to you in some capacity than lose you.
But interested to see what other people think, I'm very early on in this journey as well.

Do you mind sharing why you're trying to move into sec lit and leave your current practice?

Yes of course. I simply don’t like my current practice area and really liked white collar in law school. I also feel I’d enjoy litigation in general more than transactional. I’m not sure, of course, and I might come to regret it. But for me, transactional law is very bland and by the numbers, without any true stakes (of course they’re there, but I don’t feel them, if that makes any sense). Most importantly, I see a future for myself at the SEC/DOJ, and I feel white collar litigation would be the best segue into that.

It’s possible. But pretty sure you’d need to come in as a first year
