I'm a 3L thinking about doing a spring semester internship in an area of the law very different from the practice group I will likely be entering next year at my V50 firm (practice group is likely corporate/tax, whereas the internship is more like public interest litigation). I will be doing it for academic credit, so it'll likely show up on my transcript. It's an area of the law I'm very interested in and am thinking of transitioning to at some point in my career. Will this raise any red flags when the firm looks at my final transcript? I know for a fact that we're supposed to submit our final transcript to the firm. And is it dumb to be so scattered about what I want to do at this point? I'm still not completely convinced about wanting to do corporate or litigation.

corporate has better exit options, you're better off

You mention it being something you are interested in and plan to eventually do in your career (even if a skip step down that path) Go for it. maybe even make s surprise contact there to help speed up the start of that point in your career. Do it it live life regretting not doing it. Choice is up to you.

but to be clear, your firm will give 0.00 fucks that you did a litigation clinic your last semester of law school
