What happens if I have a gap in employment?

I'm a YHS 4th year at a small NY firm in a niche transactional practice area and was told about a month ago that I was being let go. I lateralled from a V10 pretty early in my legal career, and since coming to this firm, my hours have been abysmal (i.e. averaging about 75 hours per month) and I never really fit in here. There are only 5 or so firms with an opening in my practice area and I have already been rejected by all of them. I am applying to in-house jobs, but after a month or so of casting a wide net, I haven't really made much progress anywhere. I have until the end of the year to find a job and I will not get website time after that.
My question is, what happens to me once I'm out? In the limited searching that I've done outside of my practice area, I've been told that I'm too senior at this point to go into another practice area and I'm finding that opportunities that typically take tier 2 law school grads who can't get biglaw will not consider me because I'm seen as a flight risk. Do I just go drive for Uber or something?
