Boomer or older may know more about this than I do, but is it normal to have that concern between presidents? I kind of just presume business will continue as usual unless some specific issue comes up.

If I had to guess (not that my guess is worth much), I would say that government facing litigation may see an increase as the Biden administrative promulgates more rules and increases enforcement actions. I don't have any special knowledge here though.

There won't be significant change as long as there is divided government (e.g. GOP controls the Senate).

The consensus belief among people I work with / talk to is that there will be an uptick in litigation. When you combine pandemic-based fraud, a recession, and increased enforcement activity under a Biden regime (relative to a more lax regime under Trump), the result is a demand increase in litigation, white-collar or otherwise. Not huge, nut noticeable.

I suspected this as well. Any insight into the transactional front?

He sure seems to think that he will, and the guys in pickup trucks with them "x" flags seem to think so too.
They sure look like something is wrong with them genetically, that plus the x........TRUMP HAS A MUTANT ARMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For real though, on the 1 out of 1000 chance he does find a way to stay in power, would that be any different than if Biden gets in, or if Biden dies before he swears in and Harris takes power, or if they give the seat to a random street animal? Our lives (as lawyers) stay basically the same right?

well, THAT didn't take long.............not sure how much it will impact all of us, but it does seem 99% probable that there will more supreme court justices soon if I had to wager a guess as well.

The market typically reacts negatively but doesn't care in the long run

You should also expect a ton of lawyers to leave for the administration, especially in DC shops. A lot of lawyers who would have gone to DOJ (think white collar) and other agencies put off making the jump to not work for the Trump administration.

Think his impact will be more industry specific than general (e.g., domestic energy). That said, who knows what he ends up doing w/ COVID, as that seems like the most immediate and direct way to affect all of us.

This is just a guess, but maybe a lot more (short term) work in people applying for various covid relief and appealing denials.

I say that since I was involved in the unemployment extension appeals back when that was a huge thing for those who recall.

It was largely probono lawyers and legal aid clinics with law students, but a few paying gigs for supervisors. Drowning in paperwork and hours with lots of satellite offices set up for around two years if I recall.

I could see Biden approving of emergency bills similar to what Obama did with unemployment (but for covid, including but not limited to SBA, extended pandemic unemployment, etc)

Not a huge impact on big law associates, but could potentially impact students and recent grads in the legal aid and pro bono spheres.
