Top Law Schools

Title says it all. I'm a 7th year and have been at my current firm for 3 years. I've gotten great reviews, partners in my group like me, and I've done good work. However, I'm so burnt out from law firm life and need to start getting on with the in-house move before its too late. Have people gone to partners before to ask them about moving in-house or asking to refer them to specific roles with clients of the firm?

Just wondering because I know it will be awkward, but I'm at the point where I don't really care anymore and just want to get out of my firm. Any advice would be appreciated.

I know someone who did this when she was burnt out and looking to move - she talked to people who’d left the firm and they told her that it was actually a thing to tell the firm you wanted to go in-house and they would help to the extent possible, and allow time for interviews, that kind of thing. So she did, and her firm was receptive and did help to the extent possible.

HOWEVER, this was pre-pandemic (just barely, but still pre). And I’ve been reliably informed by other people that this would NOT fly at their firms and would just put a target on your back for any upcoming layoffs. As for my friend, she’s also in a field that transfers really really well to in-house, so it’s possible that the conventions would be different in a different practice area.

I would track down people who left your firm for in-house gigs and talk to them about how they did it before going to partners in your firm.
