When to apply to sdny/edny again?

I applied to be an AUSA in SDNY/EDNY about 2-3 years ago, but accepted a job at a local DA's office before they got back to me. When should I apply again? I don't want to get a letter of rec from my current employer before it's absolutely necessary, for obvious reasons.
