How many other restructuring associates hitting 400 this month?

Restructuring midlevel here at one of the top shops - currently sitting at 195 billables through day 14 of 31 of this month. Work from home quarantine makes this possible because there’s no commuting, getting dressed for work, etc. just roll out of bed after a few hours of sleep and start grinding away the billables.

So how many other restructuring associates are gonna hit 400 this month with me? No fluff or bs padding of hours counts

So what is going to be your excuse when the partners ask what you did with the remaining 330 hours in the month? It is not a gravy train. Work harder.

I would recommend slowing down a bit. Especially if you are billing to one matter. Understood that if it is like Jcrew it is nuts. But 400+ hours on a fee statement for one person is no great optics.

I woke up this morning with a splitting headache so that kind of sucks, and I hate these partners who don’t answer my 11 pm emails but then start firing off emails at 5 am, for fucks sake

Take it easy. It sounds like you're approaching 400 as if it's a feat. Dial it back if you can. We're all going to be busy for a while and your pace is likely unsustainable...Even from an economic standpoint, whatever additional bonus you get for billing 3,500+ this year probably isn't worth it.

lol it's not a badge of honor to bill that much. As one federal judge has observed, it's a badge of mental illness.

Also, are you trying to strike fear in the hearts of associates who through no fault of their own are sitting around without work? That's double mental illness.

I think Kirkland is concerned about what the last two months have done to some practices because (for the first time I can remember) our Friday afternoon weekly email from the chairman implored busy associates to take time off over the holiday weekend and treat it like a pre-COVID long weekend as much as possible. I’m sure the BK/Resstructuring people we’re front of mind when that was drafted.

OP here - who is bragging? Why are you so sensitive? What a bizarre response. I’m not happy that I’ve already passed 320 billables for the month.

Even during COVID-19, my refrain still is, "I hate law firms." I'm so glad I got fired.

During my last month of 300+ billables, I had virtually no time to go on TLS to lament (or brag about) the amount of work I was doing. I think you should get some rest (away from computer/phone screens)

Not op, but anon ke bk associate. Also going to land somewhere between 350-400 this month. It fucking sucks. Didn't get vibe OP was bragging.

No idea what "one of the top firms in NY" means, but sounds like someone is slow and not as top as they think.

To be clear, nothing about billing 400 hours is cool or brag worthy. Just think some DLA piper associate making masturbation jokes is a bit uncalled for.

When we return to the office I'll look out for the dude with massive forearms.

Weil BFR associate (not anon above). It's been busy, but 400 a month is bad (as opposed to busy). Hopefully you're doing well. We wouldn't want you to end up at "DLA piper". :P

Haha to be clear, think DLA piper's bk group is really good, just used them for TLS meme purposes.

Anon OP here. Yeah not sure why people are getting all worked up that I was “bragging.” It’s exhausting and not a good situation. Being quarantined actually helps though - thank god I don’t have to commute, shave, get dressed in work clothes every day, etc... I’m now over 330 on the month with a Sunday and full week to go... fuck

What is it like to work at Weil and Kirkland bankruptcy? Aren’t all of folks trying to get into like a little more sane practices? Like DLA?
