I am in New York and my work is voluntary work from home. I kind of get the sense that they want people to come in and don’t care if their employees get sick. Anyone else feel this way?

Don't go in. I was likely exposed at work and now can't leave my apartment for basically any reason. It's really not worth it.

Work from home. Doesn't matter what your work is trying to imply by not making it mandatory. Whereas many jobs and industries don't lend themselves to remote work, biglaw work can routinely be done from home with minimal inconvenience. But as usual, biglaw is behind the 8 ball when it counts.

Work from home. This isn't some weird trap.

Nobody wants everyone crammed in the office and getting sick all at once.

Not legal advice, but my sense from Cuomo's EO is that effective today, you can't work in the office (unless you're an "essential" employee, which generally associates/partners are not - "essential" mostly means things like security, mailroom staff, some IT, maybe some secretaries).

My firm was voluntary work from home last week (though even then, working from home was strongly recommended), but mandatory work from home starting today, expressly because of Cuomo's EO.

Illinois has specifically said law firms are essential. But, not really any good reason to go in when you can work from home.
