How hard are firm PI rotations/secondments to get?

Alot of firms have ~6 month rotations or secondments with public interest orgs. How hard are these to get generally, assuming you’re at the firm for a decent amount of time? Is it realistic to be able to get placed if you express interest from the start?

It depends on the firm and on interest vs. number of positions available. My gut sense is that these positions would probably be easier to get for litigators, as there is more of a benefit to the firm because litigators acquire transferable skills (i.e., courtroom experience) from these positions.
This is something you could ask about after you receive an offer, or even during the interview process. (Certainly don't ask partners or senior associates, but most firm interviews will include one or two meetings with very junior associates, where you should feel relatively free to ask anything.)
