Thoughts on how to pick practice area?

Going to be summering at one of the top full service DC shops, and interested in eventually going into Bigfed (preferably in something involving lit, enforcement, and finance-y, so SEC, DOJ frauds, CFTC, FDIC, OCC all seem great). Should I be planning on going more so into white-collar/securities enforcement or regulatory/financial services?

If you are interested in lit and enforcement you should be focusing on lit practices like white collar or securities. Regulatory practices will set you up better for joining a policy-making area at the regulators you named (i.e., writing regs, advising on regs, doing exams, etc.). DOJ Fraud and enforcement at the financial regulators are going to care most about your litigation/investigations experience and less about your experience in the substantive areas (although of course if your lit experience includes experience with their agency, all the better). Good luck!
