Applying to two jobs at same firm not simultaneously

I applied to a position at a large firm a few weeks ago. I haven’t heard back, but I don’t think I got it. They were looking for someone with more years of experience.

I researched a similar practice group at that firm which aligns more closely with my practice at my firm. Yesterday, they posted a position for an associate in my class year.

Would it be heavily frowned upon for me to apply for this position as well? I don’t want to give away the practice, but think of it as applying to a senior level PE role then applying to a mid level ECVC role.

I can easily rework my resume to fit the other role, if it helps.

I’m just really trying to get out of my firm and pivoting slightly away from what I do now would not be the worst.

In a similar place. I'd have zero issue applying to either PE or ECVC, or even any M&A role. I just switch the financing and M&A sections on my deal sheet. Maybe try having a connection at the firm pass your resume on if the first time didn't get interest. But then again I haven't landed my new job yet so take that with a grain of salt.
