Did not do OCI, what now?

Hey all.

I am currently a second-year law student at a mid-ranked school. I have a 3.5 GPA, have made Dean's List both semesters, and sit in the Top 10% of my class.

I did not participate in OCI this summer. I want to practice Plaintiff's Personal Injury, and I have no interest in BigLaw, which is why I did not do OCI. My school's OCI was relatively bleak minus a several BigLaw firms and military organizations.

If I want to get into Plaintiff's PI, what would be a good summer gig for 2020? I interned with the NJ Superior Court-Appellate Division this past summer.

Thanks.

If you want to work on plaintiff side PI, call me crazy, but I'd say working for a plaintiff side PI firm would be a good place for the summer. Even better if it is the kind of place that would hire you out of law school.

Apply to Lieff Cabraser Heimann and Bernstein. They have a summer program and hire associates out of it. They have a pretty substantial PI practice.

OP wants to do personal injury work. I don’t think either of these firms do that type of work (which is a very local practice).

OP- id ... work at a personal injury firm. I wouldn’t even wait til the summer. Apply to the best ones in your area, and work during law school. In my market, those firms tend to hire folks that worked with them as law clerks for 2L and 3L years (+ the summers).
