Foley, Simpson Thacher, or Paul Hastings (LA)

Any advice on choosing between these firms for transactional work in LA? Foley and PH have relatively large offices compared to STB in LA, but STB has a better reputation nationwide.

Noticed on other threads that people talked about the negative culture for corporate group in PH LA a few years back, involving associates being let go. Is that still the case now?

Does Foley have a corporate group in LA?

It feels like Foley shouldn't really be in the running here. PH has the larger and broader practice in LA in particular, but, as you note, STB does have greater national presence, and a few of its practices in LA are quite strong. In particular, STB LA has large and well-regarded practices in fund finance and fund formation, which make up a big portion of its corporate work in LA. If you're interested in either of those practices, STB would be the right choice. If you're interested in more generic transactional work, like M&A or capital markets, PH would be the right choice. In any event, if you think you might want to leave LA (especially for the east coast) in the near-term, you should go to STB for the ease of moving.
