A partner called me to offer a callback invitation (she left a voicemail), told me to call her back but also said recruiting will reach out w more details. I called her back, she didnt pick up. And then shortly after, recruiting sent me an email w the details. Do i still need to call this partner back and thank her for the invitation? She probably has better shit to do w her time than this song and dance around callback notifications/getting thanked for it. But is anyone keeping track?

Did you leave the partner a voicemail? Assuming no, maybe you just send a quick email that the partner can also ignore. Wouldn't stress too much about it, though. The person probably has no idea who you are and you are probably one of like 20 people they had to call.

Just echoing Shock's comment, you can definitely just do nothing and that's fine, but if you really want, a quick email stating that you received the voicemail and appreciate the invitation to interview is all that is necessary, don't think too much about it. Partners on the hiring committee make a lot of calls to a lot of students during hiring season, it's very unlikely she'll be insulted or anything in that ballpark.
Good luck with the interview

I never bothered with actually calling back unless the call was literally seconds ago.
Just an email thanking partner for the good news will do. In fact the partner will probably find that less annoying than answering your call between all of her other calls and meetings.

I can give some perspective from the opposite end since I made a bunch of calls on behalf of my firm offering callback interviews. More often than not, my calls went to voicemail. And of the people for whom I left voicemails, only 1 actually called me back, and they did so just a minute or 2 after I called. A few emailed me the next day to thank me for reaching out. Others did not contact me again, and simply coordinated their callbacks with recruiting. And honestly, any of the above is fine. I think an email thank you is polite, and is what I would have done as a student. But you certainly don't need to call the person back unless you missed the call by moments.
