Top Law Schools

This may be a really dumb question, but has anyone ever used a recruiter for 3L OCI? I would like to stay in Biglaw, but it is becoming unavoidable that I will need to change markets for family reasons. I recently received some unexpected money from my grandfather (he passed earlier this summer), and I was wondering if hiring a recruiter would be a good way to use it? Is there any way to let a firm know you will waive the recruiter fee (like saying you will pay it yourself)? I really do not know a lot about legal recruiting, so any advice is very helpful. Also, if this is a completely asinine idea thought up by a desperate 3L, please let me know!

Typically, you don't pay the recruiter. The recruiter gets paid by the law firm that ultimately hires you. In any case, I don't think it is a good idea. As noted, the firm has to pay an extra fee when they hire someone through a recruiter. There are hundreds of people fresh out of law school who are looking for a job, so the firm can easily hire someone from the local law school w/o the recruiter fee. If anything, it would make you a less attractive candidate because you are more expensive.

I'm sure others will weigh in, but I think your best bet is to go the traditional route: send applications, network, etc. You've got this!

No the firm pays the recruiter, they won't do it for law students and recruiters don't take law students for this reason.

Yeah, I don't think this is a thing. As a law student, you're not experienced or competitive enough to use a recruiter. Fresh law students are a dime a dozen. There's no reason for firms to go outside the normal OCI channels and pay recruiters for law students
