I have a friend that is working at a midlaw firm that just lost a few attorneys and is looking to hire. How much does his referring my resume help in obtaining an interview?

Depends on the firm, but it usually helps quite a bit if you’re in the range of the type of candidate they’d usually look at.

At my firm, a lot. It's a better guarantee of fit and cheaper than a recruiter, which is why they shell out $ to associate referrals.

I'll add on to what the others have said, it's a pretty strong factor especially in a midlaw/smaller firm, although it would definitely be positive at the biglaw level as well. It's why networking is so important for your career overall.

Best of luck
