Between 20 and 25, DC and NYC (strong ties to DC). What's the practice for reaching out to the firms I didn't get? Is it emailing the recruiters directly, or just trying to get open signups while at OCI?

Are you saying it's recommended that to get additional OCI interviews, one should email recruiters directly and not rely only on the OCI process (1. wait for open sign ups, 2. ask recruiters on day of interview)?

Re: UChicago Law OCI 2019
I think both approaches can be somewhat successful. Reaching out to recruiters and emphasizing the randomness inherent in the bidding process and asking if they have any other time available, and being vigilant about when slots open up through the portal.Pennoyer v. You might be a bit late for this too, but a final best practice if you're targeting a non-NY/DC area is to double-check whether firms are only interviewing for specific offices, but have additional ones in your target region. I had plenty of success getting phone screeners and callbacks for those. For ex. if memory serves STB had a Palo Alto office my year, but didn't send interviewers to OCI for that office, just the larger ones. I contacted that office's recruiter, got a phone screener and callback in short order right before OCI.

Emailing/applying independently of the OCI process, or applying via the additional OCI options (open sign-ups two days before the interview and/or approaching the day of the interview).Anonymous User wrote:Are you saying it's recommended that to get additional OCI interviews, one should email recruiters directly and not rely only on the OCI process (1. wait for open sign ups, 2. ask recruiters on day of interview)?

What awards are too tacky for LinkedIn? Is there any benefit to putting any on there?

I stand by my recommendation of doing both when feasible, while recognizing that at this point recruiters may be more inclined to have you sit tight till OCI. But targeting regional offices that don't participate is still doable.

As a heads up, we're (PW) giving callbacks via phone same day as screener and hosting callback dinner that evening

Any advice from upperclassmen on what screeners for multiple offices (for the firms that don't do multiple interviews) are like?

They're not really different, you just tell them which office(s) you prefer. They may ask why, so have some kind of answer ready.Anonymous User wrote:Any advice from upperclassmen on what screeners for multiple offices (for the firms that don't do multiple interviews) are like?
Good luck everyone! This is a pretty crazy experience you're all about to have. It can be fun, but it eventually gets exhausting, and you're going to be told no more than a few times. Just keep yourself steady and maintain your faith. You got this.

Considering the local time in Chicago, I think it's fair to say that if the dinner is tonight and you haven't been contacted, that's a bad sign.

Is it just me or is the whole idea of a callback dinner goofy? Maybe I’m just antisocial but that sounds (a) really boring, (b) somewhat stressful, and (c) pretty random (though it’s always good to learn more about firms). Is this a common practice?

Not at all uncommon and both a good way to prep for callbacks in regard to firm details and nuances. Plus even if you're antisocial, these are social muscles you need to flex a little, both in prep for the rest of OCI and for your 2L summer!Anonymous User wrote:Is it just me or is the whole idea of a callback dinner goofy? Sidley LA was giving out callbacks at the end of the screener.

I talked with one of the partners after interviewing and he said he was really impressed with everyone, more so than most years at OCI here (for credibility reference/actual canid answer verification I am a current SA)Anonymous User wrote:Not yet (NYC). Did everyone get the white and case pre-oci reception invite or was it pre screened?
