Anyone else doing this? Don't particularly know what to expect, so figured I would create this thread for information sharing.

I did this like 3 years ago and remember feeling very confused about what to expect. I’m happy to answer any general questions.

Did you ultimately feel it was worth it? I mean, assuming you had the opportunity to interview with the BLG firms you're interested in at your school's OCI, did BLG provide any discernible advantage to the process?

Yes. I got my current offer through BLG (one of the Boston big 3 law firms) and wasn’t offered an interview with them through my schools OGI. I get the sense if you don’t otherwise go to a Boston law school, it can be a great way to prove your interest in the school.

Unless they changed the general format, here's what I remember:

You check in, they give you your folder which will have your schedule of interview times/room location. Before your interview time, you sit in a chair outside the interview room, and are supposed to knock on the door 5 mins before to give the interviewer a 5 min warning. Interviews are, what, 15-20 mins? Then, unless you have back to back interviews, you go back to the common area/whatever hotel conference room they have you waiting in and you sit there until your next interview. There may be lottery slots open, so they will randomly select students for firms' lottery open spots (it just means you weren't selected to interview with the firm originally, but they have left open spots for random students to interview with them).

Definitely worth it--people missed out if they didn't bother to apply. Many people I know got their jobs through the BLG process which they wouldn't have otherwise gotten through OCI (i.e. they didn't get selected for an OCI interview with that firm, but got it through BLG). You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, and this is one of the shots you could miss if you don't do it.

Can anyone comment on what the pre-select rate is? It feels a little weird to not be bidding on firms and just having them review our resume and transcripts.

I'm top 10% at a T1 but I have no ties to Boston. Don't really know what to expect.

I don't know definitively, but just anecdotally, for friends in non-Harvard Boston-area law schools, seemed like people on the lower end of the GPA scale (e.g. 3.1/3.2) got, at best, around 2-4 interviews; people with better GPAs (3.4+) got around 4-6 interviews.

I think top 10% at your school will get you a pretty good number of preselect interviews. Lack of Boston ties probably won't preclude you from the firms at least giving you a slot for a screener interview--you may just get questions about why Boston, since it is, after all the BOSTON lawyers group running the program. I definitely got the question or at least an insinuation that they wanted me to justify the Boston market, even though I attended law school in Boston.

Also, I think I had like between 12-14 interviews on that one day. It was by far the longest and hardest interview day I ever had. Be prepared to be exhausted and overwhelmed.

And yes, if you’re a strong candidate you’ll have to interview with firms that you’re probably not interested in. Just think of it as practice and take every one seriously.
