I am a first year private client and tax associate. In the past 8 months, I've billed only 400 hours and things are getting worse: since March, I only have 80 billable hours.
Should I go to Big4 int'l tax group if I have always liked tax? In my current job, I prefer its tax aspect to drafting wills and trusts.

Are you saying you’re only on pace to bill around 600 hours for a 12-month period? That’ll be problematic come review time because you are way in the red. Junior associates aren’t usually that profitable because hours are written off. I suspect you probably aren’t even profitable even if they billed 100% of the hours you’ve billed.

I was around 1300 my first year and it was a very unpleasant review for me. I would probably start looking and if the big4 opportunity is a realistic opportunity, I would take it without giving it a second thought.
