What are the exits for band 1 (Cooley/Fenwick/Goodwin/Gunderson/WSGR) EC/VC associates? Do they mostly go to startups or are they generally marketable to go in-house at companies of all stages?

Depends on the practice area. Startups are startups for several years. Most seed-stage startups don't need in-house counsel. So many attys leave to work at mid-late stage startups, newly public companies and public companies. Just depends on what experience you have and what you can "spin" when you're interviewing. If you're tax or M&A, you might go work at a larger acquirer (Cisco, Google, etc.) or maybe even a PE fund. Essentially, you will have good exit opps but you need to work on getting good experience as you build your career. But you can definitely work to position yourself or lateral to get closer to your next step.
