Ties for Lateraling to Texas Biglaw

I'm a corporate midlevel at a V10 in a major market, thinking about lateraling to Houston. Are ties to Houston/Texas necessary to lateral? My wife spent a few years living in Houston as a child and we visited fairly recently and really liked it, but that's all we've got. We're looking to move for lifestyle reasons - we're sick of the winters up north and would love to be able to afford a big house in the suburbs within a reasonable commute from work. Also, is the Houston/Texas market hot right now?

My sense from going through the 2018 recruiting cycle in Houston is that no ties are necessary. The secret is Houston and maybe Dallas is to actually just want to be there. If you have the desire, it'll come through naturally in interviews and people will welcome you with open arms given that most firms are dying for corporate midlevels. Their usual tactic is just to poach them from each other, but I'm sure they'd welcome an injection of new blood.
