What are the benefits of having a completely built out LinkedIn page?

Other than getting contacted by more recruiters, what are the benefits of having a completely built out LinkedIn page? A few of my contacts have really robust profiles - awesome summary, great descriptions for each of their roles, lots of activity and interests, the whole 9 yards.
I on the other hand have my jobs listed and that's it. Just title and position, no descriptions or anything additional on the page.
I'm starting a new job this week and am updating my title and position as well as my profile pic, and it got me wondering whether I should invest a bit more time into my page. But it made me wonder, what's the point? Hearing about more opportunities is fine but I've never found recruiters to be all that great in the first place. Will I get asked to connect from other people (non-recruiters) more frequently? Do event organizers search linkedin for potential panelists or anything?
