Top Law Schools

I am a law clerk and just received an offer to join the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals as an Attorney Advisor. I haven't found much online about life at that particular branch of the agency. Does anyone have any information that they would be willing to share? I heard that there is a great telework policy. I would be coming in at the GS-9 level, with promotion potential up to GS-12.

Working for the feds is a great gig, but most attorney jobs promote to a GS14 or 15. The GS12 cap seems pretty low. I’d try to shoot for other agencies if you can, but a GS9 certainly beats no job. I think OHMA eventually has supervisory positions that go up to GS14, but you’ve also got to compare that to other agencies where you can get G15 or even SES pay for supervising. My agency isn’t on the GS scale, but I’m almost certain we start our honors attorneys above a GS9. By year 3, they’re making more than a GS12.

Thanks for the info. GS-9 is certainly low, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to work for the federal government - especially in the field of health law.
