Second-most selective firm in Charlotte behind Robinson Bradshaw. Very well respected in the area.

What's their payscale? Billable hour requirement? Likelihood of being let go prematurely?

My brother is a partner there in corporate. They've been very good to him. It was more than an 8 year track. Even with non-major-market salary, you're still making a killing in Charlotte due to COL. There's some travel in his group based on where clients are based. He works A LOT, not less than biglaw at all. He's been very happy there. His wife has worked at 2 biglaw firms in CLT in the same area so he has a reasonable basis for comparison in terms of hours and salaries, etc. Charlotte is lovely and I enjoy visiting every time I go. It's a great place to raise a family.

Anyone have any information on MVA IP/patent litigation partners and/or associates? Just wanted to see if anyone had any insight on the "culture" (i hate using such a cliche word) in CLT. I am currently at an V100 firm in Atlanta and looking at an opening they have. Thanks for any insight!

I worked in the MVA Charlotte IP group for two years as a patent agent. I also worked in Atlanta biglaw.

My time at MVA was great. I loved the people there, including the partners. Really friendly, approachable, and reasonable. Sophisticated work and clients. The firm and IP group in particular has deep roots with Bank of America. Many social events were held with / for the bank. The culture is excellent.

The bulk of the IP group is Bank of America patent prosecution filings, which is a well-organized high-volume machine. It's not that soul crushing in terms of workload, though it can be monotonous at times. People work hard, but there is balance, too (moreso than in Atlanta). There is plenty of other non-bank work to go around, often viewed as a welcome break from bank work.

There were few IP litigation partners when I was there... I can't speak to that work. The firm as a whole leans slightly more transactional.

I really enjoyed my time at MVA, and recommend it without hesitation. Happy to answer any questions you have, either here or offline.

As an anecdote, I worked across from MVA Charlotte's debt team recently and they were some of the most pleasant and commercial people I've worked with as a corporate associate.

Any insight into salary/bonus? According to Nalp, first year is 160k. I am considering a mid-level M&A position they posted, and want to get a better idea of how much of a pay cut I might be looking at coming from NY cravath scale.
