Biglaw offices

Today was my first day at a biglaw firm (I practice at a midsize ID firm and the biglaw firm is co-counsel on a matter).

They had a (fcking) Barista in the reception area. Made me think - what other cool shit do these biglaw offices have?

This must be a flagship office to justify having a full-time barista.

Of course if you have a barista in reception, no one can use coffee as an excuse to leave the building.

The barista's pretty extra. I've never worked/been in/know of any friends working in a BigLaw office with an in-house barista!

In-house cafeterias, sure. But not specifically a barista.

When I was in one of the i banks in WTC, we had onsite barista and catered meals around the clock. MD straight up told me they started with baristas when Starbucks started taking over and people became unsatisfied with more traditional drip coffee then they realized free food and coffee are very helpful with keeping people working all day.

You'd be surprised. Kirkland's glittering new DC office has a coffee bar with full-time barista. That's for an office with only about 250 lawyers.

And Kirkland Houston has fresh nitro cold brew and other drinks on tap.

White & Case NYC has one of these. It's a seriously nice office. But, as others have mentioned, I think it's becoming (weirdly) the norm for firms with newer/newly-renovated offices. In addition to keeping people trapped in the sky prison, I assume it's nice to be able to offer guests a decent cappuccino in meetings.

Truer words have never been said. I didn't leave the office for 3 days in a row at one point--isn't it great having food, showers, and sleeping areas available in-building so we never have to get sunshine again?

Well at that point I'd consider the savings on rent a fringe benefit.

At this point, my apartment is a VERY expensive storage unit.
Unrelated, but can one rent a storage unit and sleep in it every once in a while, or nah?

If your firm lets you expense a black car, maybe you can just have it drive in a circle for 8 hours.

My firm was co-counsel with Watchtell once. We went to their offices for an all day meeting and during lunch a butler came into the room and asked what we wanted for food. No menu. Order literally anything you want (within reason, e.g., can't get In-N-Out burger on the East Coast) and he'll bring it to you.

are they drinks good? I feel I wouldn't make use of it that often because milk has calories and those add up...
