full ride at UF Tax LLM?

Hi everyone,

I am the OP at an earlier thread:
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=300473

I have since been offered a full ride at the UF program. So it's now UF with full ride v. GULC with some $$ v. NYU at sticker.

Leaning towards an option where I will come out debt-free worst case scenario for reasons I provided at earlier thread, but want to hear everyone's views as well as I find them to be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Do you want to live in Florida? No —> don’t go to UF.

I’ve rarely seen UF Tax LLMs outside of Florida. Even in Florida, if you do a quick search of tax/employee benefits attorneys, most went to NYU.

Don’t do it. Just look at TIP and TARE listings and you can eliminate any doubt that NYU/GULC are way ahead at this point.

I've seen a fair number of UF LLMs working in big law outside of Florida, so I don't think it's like, a kiss of death, but if you aren't paying (and your prior post on the other thread said your family is happy to help pay for school, even though you feel guilty about it), then go to the "best" school, which is NYU. And like someone else said on here, see if you can get NYU or GULC to give you (more) money based on your Florida offer.

If you're thinking about UF, you need to do the same research re: getting a work visa/placements for students who need an h1b1 that you were going to do for GULC and NYU.

That would be most ideal but I doubt that either GULC or NYU would do that, I knew someone admitted in the NYU tax program received a small amount of scholarship last Friday but I did not so that also tells something about my case presumably.

Doesn't hurt to try to negotiate, but I agree that you probably shouldn't expect too much.

I also agree with the other posters ITT that UF is a distant third to NYU and Georgetown. There are even some who opine that UF may not be worth attending. I think UF is worth attending in certain cases (NW too), but it really is not in the same league as NYU and Georgetown - and even Georgetown is a significant step below NYU in terms of placement power. If I were in your shoes, I'd give myself the best shot at success by attending NYU.

Remembered this thread when I saw this

https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-sc ... w-rankings

Peer assessment of NYU tax law faculty 4.9.

GULC 4.5
Florida 4.4.

Didn’t think the gap would be so big.

OP here and thanks everyone for their kind advice.

I received a small amount of $$ from NYU so I decided to enroll there. I will see a year later if I made the right move.
