Top Law Schools

Practicing for two years doing insurance defense work (med mal, gen liability, automobile cases). I’m at a mid law firm approx. 200 attorneys in the NY market. I’m on my second firm In two years, taking the opportunity with a bigger firm and nice pay increase.

I’m interested in biglaw but want to remain doing litigation. I’m not sure what my exit options are right now though. Do I even have the opportunity to make this move? I’d like to move away from insurance defense work at this point - it’s already getting stale. I also want to make more money. Any tips? Suggestions? Thanks as always.

I think this is going to be relatively hard. Most everyone in insurance defense would like to lateral to BigLaw.

I would try to get as much courtroom & deposition experience as possible. That being said, I am not sure how valuable that would be since most of the partners in Biglaw would handle any dispositive motions and depos. Either way, can't hurt because you will just get more litigation experience that you can maybe use for local/state government.

Try to get involved in pro bono and network like hell. Seems obvious, but I think luck / meeting the right person at the right time is your most likely path.

Those may sound obvious, probably because there really isn't some magic pill or better path.
