Callback with a firm as a 3L versus a 2L

Hey guys,

I'm asking on behalf of a friend who's interviewing with a big firm for an associate positions as a 3L.

She's gone through the screener interview and was invited back for a callback with the firm. Is this going to be a personality test like 2L callbacks are? Or, as a 3L, will they be asking much more substantive questions?

Also, the format of the interview is 3 sets of interviewers, first two are with 3 partners/senior associates and then the last is with 2 first years. Any tips for navigating dealing with being interviewed by several people at once?

Thanks.

Is your friend interviewing for a specific group? That’s likely the biggest difference from a 2L interview. Your friend should highlight their fit, both personally and intellectually, with the group they’re interviewing for. It’ll still be about fit and personality, but they’ll also want to sell themselves in the context of the group they’re interviewing to join.

probably interviewing for a specific group/practice as noted above

unless your friend's resume screams "yes, this is a good fit", they need to prepare a compelling narrative as to why practice XYZ would be a great fit for them (i.e. classes, the nature of the work, etc.)
