No job posted, still apply?

Hi folks,

I'm a second year biglaw associate hoping to lateral to an Am Law 100 firm in my hometown. The firm lists current openings for all of their offices nationwide, but there's nothing available for junior associates in my practice group in my hometown office. Given my strong connections to the market and interest in being in that particular office, do you think I could contact their head of lateral recruiting and let them know of my interest?

Thanks for your help, homies.

Of course you still apply. When I lateraled, I got multiple callbacks and offers from firms/companies that had no listed job.

Don't apply to the recruiting department (they will likely just shove the resume in the file if there is no listing), reach out directly to someone who works in the department you are applying to. To the extent you can farm a connection, do that. Start with informational interviews- figure out which firms in your practice group are doing well and may need extra help. See if someone is willing to make an introduction All else fails, look for an alumni connection.
