Anyone with insight on which of these is better in terms of litigation - quality of work, work-life balance, etc. Any help is appreciated.

I would knock Jenner out since they didn't match Cravath. Winston probably gives you better work life balance, neither will be good for that but the ppl I know that are at Latham get worked really hard.

Depends on what kind of litigation, if you want white collar/patent Winston is better, other areas more of a toss up. Also, if you want to stay in Chicago long term Winston's name will go pretty far, but if you want to head to the coasts, Latham is better

Actually, Jenner's at $190K, so I'd set that consideration aside.

But I've got a similar dilemma--currently choosing between Jenner, Winston, and Skadden. Interested in white-collar, regulatory, and--though to a lesser extent--appellate work. Would greatly appreciate if any other Chicagoans could elaborate on the distinctions between these three, and especially between Jenner and Winston.

Yes, but Jenner didn't match for all levels of associates or include a summer bonus, thus not matching Cravath. I'd go with Winston, although Jenner is stronger at appellate, Winston is known more for their trial practice. Jenner does do a really good job with pro bono and is good for liberal causes, but the firm is cheap, hence not fully matching Cravath. Both are well regarded and I'd say have equal reputations in Chicago

Tough because these firms are all the same tier in Chicago. Latham by virtue of its huge national reputation and the other two because of their Chicago roots. Great choices to have. I had a callback with Winston - they were initially my top firm heading into OCI. Even though I didn't get the call, the people at Winston were great. If you're into litigation they take great pride in being a top trial firm in Chicago so it's a great place to be if that's what you're interested in. Their corporate practice is up-and-coming but not top-tier in Chicago.

Jenner is in a similar boat. I've heard that the expectations at Jenner are pretty sky-high, even though the people are great. Finally, I'd echo the sentiments of the previous poster.

If you want to stay in Chicago I'd say Winston and Jenner - I'd pick Winston but they're both fantastic firms. If you're looking to move to a different market Latham is MUCH stronger nationally than both Winston and Jenner. Jenner is prestigious but has little presence outside of Chicago. Winston has little presence outside of Chicago and NY fwiw. Great choices to have though - good luck!
