Top Law Schools

Interested in corporate work, possibly M&A. Leaning toward Skadden or Latham. Concerned with quality of work and exit options outside of the Chicago area. Both firms are listed as Band 1 in Chicago, but any insight beyond that?

If you're not tied to Chicago, skadden or latham definitely ahead of Mayer. If you 100% wanted to stay in Chicago then I think Mayer would be closer. For M&A I'd probably go with Skadden, but they're close enough that you can pick the one you like the best. I know some ppl at Latham, they're driven and work hard. Only worked across from Skadden Chicago once, but I liked them.

OP here, thanks for the advice! Was sorta thinking the same thing regarding Latham/Skadden vs. Mayer, with the former ideally offering better exit ops outside Chicago.


Between Skadden and Latham, probably clicked with the Latham associates slightly more than Skadden, however I could certainly see myself working at both places if career prospects differed. Any noticeable difference between the two for exit ops across Midwest?

No, I doubt there would be much difference between the two in the midwest or even between them and Mayer in the midwest for that matter
