I am applying for a job that states the position is based out of x office. They added that a remote position may be considered on a case by case basis - basically for candidates they think are qualified/responsible enough to handle it.
I am strongly looking to work remotely at this point in time, and am wondering how or when to bring this up. My situation is that I want to work remotely period, but if they won't agree to that, then worst case, I want to at least start off working remotely for 2-3 months, and then I can work on site after that, and maybe in the future think about another 2-3 months remote if things go well.
Should I bring it up during the interview? Or only after I receive the offer?
And when I bring it up, should I start small and ask if I can work remotely for the first few months, until I relocate... or go big and ask if I can work remotely period?
I feel like asking for full remote first, and then if they say no, ask for starting remote .. has the advantage of making it more likely for them to agree to the second option since it's less extreme compared to the first. but it also has the disadvantage of putting them on the defensive from the get go, whereas if I start with the baby step of starting off remote, they will be less threatened and not get defensive?

Get the offer and then discuss remote options.

Rather than ask for full remote options for 2-3 months, why not ask for partial remote (2 days out of office, 3 days in)? Then if it works out after a few months you can eventually work your way up to fully remote.
Definitely wait until after recieving the offer to broach this topic.

Re: how to bring up remote option
It's because I have family in another state (I would be relocating for the job), so I want to do the 2-3 month remote, or full, so that I can travel back and stay with them. It would be too much travel to go back and forth every weekAnonymous User wrote:Rather than ask for full remote options for 2-3 months, why not ask for partial remote (2 days out of office, 3 days in)?
