Interesting. What does this mean for people that have accepted summer associateships there? I had a callback with Fitzpatrick but turned it down.
Not familiar with Finnegan, but I don't think FR is going anywhere given their size and specialty. FR is larger than some full-service biglaw firms. Fitzpatrick is/was more of a true boutique. The trend seems to be lit moving into biglaw (e.g. Kenyon & Kenyon AKA Hunton Andrews Kurth) and pros moving to boutiques or specialist shops (e.g. Knobbe), and this largely seems to come from billing pressure.Anonymous User wrote:Not surprised. Work is down at a lot of IP-only firms from what I've heard - I had a callback at one of the three (well, now two) F's and none of the juniors made their hours last year, although none of them seemed particularly upset about it. I'll be curious to see how much longer Finnegan and Fish & Richardson last.
As someone on the job search now, I'm also curious about this.Anonymous User wrote:Interesting. What does this mean for people that have accepted summer associateships there? I had a callback with Fitzpatrick but turned it down.
I disagree. The trend is everything moving to boutique from what I'm seeing.Anonymous User wrote:Not familiar with Finnegan, but I don't think FR is going anywhere given their size and specialty. Prosecution is moving to patent agents and in-house. Boutique and small patent prosecution firms will be structured much differently than they are now. The personnel will be partners and patent agents and fewer positions for associate patent attorneys. The problem is prosecution is devalued and companies are switching to fixed fee and taking the lowest bidder. The prosecution work is thought of as a commodity.Anonymous User wrote:fake newsAnonymous User wrote:I disagree. seriously though, what could you possibly have to support this? previous anon qualified it by saying that pros was indeed moving to boutiques. so, are you specifically arguing that the above anon's statement re: IP lit moving to GPs is somehow not the trend?
