OP: Please be advised that the results of this poll may be skewed by the fact that Milbank was the first mover in the latest round of raises.

As someone at one of the two firms on this list that isn't Milbank: I'd go to Milbank because the lack of hours requirements for a bonus takes a lot of stress out of your life (even if you'd make it anyway)

Look at Chambers. I have no idea why Sidley is a "V14" law firm. I'd say Milbank.

Definitely Milbank- it is a much more highly regarded firm in the NY market.

Sidley. Even though the nyc office isn’t their headquarters they’re still very highly regarded globally

Does Sidley have an hours requirement for bonus?

It should definitely be a factor. Typically, you will hit 2000 or close to it at Milbank or Sidley if you are in one of their marquee groups. (Not really that familiar with Hogan's NY office). But bonus is such a big part of your overall comp, and there's definitely a risk that you miss 2000 one year just based on luck (temporary lull in work, staffing inefficiencies, getting put in a slower group).

FYI, even at the sweatshoppy NY biglaw firms plenty of people bill sub-2000.

This is the CR. There are tons of associates not hitting their hours every year and not getting a bonus. Not having to worry about bonus if you bill like 1800 or 1900 hours is HUGE.

Not necessarily. Most sweatshop firms if you don't bill over 2000 you'll be gone in a year or two. It's like when a firm says they let you do unlimited pro bono -- you obviously can't do as much as you like and not get negative consequences.

I agree with the above poster about these results being skewed due to Milbank raising salaries early.

Milbank. if you care at all about associate development, MIlbank's put their money where their mouth is by way of formal programs. also their new offices are awesome.
