Thoughts about Akin NY?

So far, this is the only SA offer I've received, and I was curious to know if anyone had been a SA in Akin's NY office (or known anyone who has) and could share their experience. I'm going in for lit.

It's a pretty specialized shop, and most of it's bankruptcy lit. If that's what you're into, great. If not, then it might not be the place for you. Good news is that bankruptcy lit is 1) fast-turnaround, and 2) insulated from the market. But it's hella boring if you're not into doc review and financial statements.

Bankruptcy lit is an interesting beast. Like the above poster said, it's very fast turnaround. That means a ton more experience early on than typical commercial or securities/antitrust litigation and the matters actually end (it's pretty common for a biglaw associate to be on matters that are still going by the time they leave the firm a few years later). There are also some interesting exit options if you can work your way into sort of a dual-BK/BK lit role that aren't typically available to litigators. The downside is that BK lit is considered somewhat less prestigious than securities or antitrust litigation if you care about that sort of thing and might limit your exit options into boutiques.

But just to be extra clear... if Akin ends up being OP's only SA offer, then s/he should definitely still take it.
