Can I work at law firm and do my personal business?

I will be working at a commercial real estate finance firm. The pay is $65k with normal hours. I was wondering if I could provide legal work outside the firm (no conflict) in order to make extra money. I have a huge immigration clientele base through my church. If I play my cards right, I can bring in $15-20k doing immigration work. I also have a friends that need help with startups, which I can make $4k.

Before anyone comments, I have no interest in doing immigration as a permanent solution. I am more interested in corporate transactions, entrepreneurial law. I am using my commercial real estate finance as training before branching out.

Thanks for any advice. I really need to pay back my loans, which is 300k (college and law school)

Fairly sure most firms make associates sign no-moonlighting agreements that prohibit legal practice outside the firm. It’s about mitigating *potential* conflicts, not just the ones you know about. And I’m pretty sure it also has something to do with malpractice liability.
