$3175 for a one bedroom in Brooklyn. No roommates. Probably overpaid.

When I worked in NYC I paid $2,300 to split the rent on a 3BR with 2 roommates in a very safe building.

$2800 for a 1 bedroom with utilities included in Queens.

I pay $2000 excluding utilities for a studio now. When I was a junior associate, I paid $2300 for a one bedroom plus den, got a twin bed for the den and rented out the den as a furnished apartment for $1300, so I only paid $1000/ month excluding utilities. Both are in Manhattan. A classmate lives with his girlfriend in a rent-controlled giant loft apartment in Brooklyn. Another classmate and his fiancé live with his grandmother, who owes a large penthouse apartment on UES. These are exceptions to the norm of course.

Yes, both first years. We pay about 1900 each for a 1-br north of Columbus circle

Yes to all the above except no city view. My place is a parlor level brownstone in Brooklyn Heights, has central air, and was renovated within the last couple of years. It's really nice.

But yeah it's a lot of rent for just one person - $3175/mo.

No offense, but you sound like you've never lived in NYC or any major city. $3,000+ for a 1 BR is very standard now in Manhattan. If anything, the posters in this thread are living "cheaply".

2850, now 2875 for a 800ish square foot one bedroom with lofts in the upper west. Walk up to second floor. No washer or dryer or gym. I have someone do my laundry and I gym elsewhere. Partner soon to move in to cut rent in half.

Immediately after graduation (a few years ago), I split an amazing 2BR/2BA in Downtown Brooklyn with a law school friend. Total was $4500, which was a steal (doorman, gym, balcony, views, etc.).

Now, living with spouse (also biglaw) in Brooklyn Heights. $4350 gets us enough space to have a dedicated office/eventual nursery, but no gym or doorman.

2 biglaw mid-levels, $5800 1 bd and 2 baths in Sutton place. It is a condo that sold for a little of $2mm in 2016 so it has all amenities, doorman etc.

We work a lot so coming home to a nice apt. is worth it to us.

Roommate and I pay 4300 total for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment in a luxury building in long island city. Apartment also has it's own balcony with view of city skyline.

Really recommend LIC, you can get luxury apartments for a good price and the buildings have all the amenities (rooftop deck, gym, doorman, basketball court, etc).

Caveat, LIC is still up and coming, so theres not much to do in the immediate area and it doesn't feel very "neighborhood" like.

I used to split a $2,850/month apartment with 2 roommates and paid about $900 a month for 2 years in West Harlem. Then moved into a $2,900/month apartment in the UWS with my SO and we split the rent. Overall, I think I had it pretty dam good, though these were not luxury buildings or anything like that.

However, I moved out to the midwest and now pay $2,000/month with my SO for a three bedroom house with 1.5 bathrooms and a pretty nice backyard. So glad we moved.

I pay 1750 effective rent splitting a one-bedroom with my partner in Midtown West (with full amenities -- gym, doorman, lounge, rooftop, etc., but no in-unit washer dryer).

They were talking about the poster that moved to the midwest, jeez relax. The midwest is not in NY, it's in the midwest.
