Does anybody know if SF DA's office hires senior level lawyers? I'm a senior WC lit associate in NYC big law.

Planning to move to SF with my family next year (child on the way). I grew up in SF and I find myself wanting to work for SF DA. I'm also going to apply to federal and state level jobs but I wanted to specifically ask about the SF DA's office. I know that some DA's offices prefer to hire young lawyers only for budget reasons.

Don't know specifically re: senior lawyers. I've heard they find it hard to recruit and retain good people. Turnover very high. I'm sure it's as good a DA's office as any to get trial experience. Have heard better things about the Alameda DA, in Oakland.

There were plenty of senior attorneys there, but they seemed to be mostly home-grown in that they came directly after law school. The office is very small btw, so it can be a little claustrophobic. Quality varies across the board, and there are some interesting personalities.
